Satori™ Japanese wall finishes can be applied using most standard U.S. hand trowels and those familiar with plastering should have an easy time working with the material. It is always recommended that they practice first on sample boards. We have also imported from Japan a set of four distinct Japanese trowels, recommended for their flexibility and thinness. This is especially important during the final compression of the finish after it begins to go matte or surface water withdraws, in order to create the smoothest Japanese style finish possible without burnishing.
We offer three stainless steel trowels of different sizes as well as one with an acrylic surface that works best during the final compression stage and will optimize the smooth style of our finish.
All expertly crafted to give the artisan precision control, our Japanese trowels – with their flexibility and thinness – are perfect for smooth application as well as for creating patterns and textures.
The sizes are as follows:
- Stainless steel trowel (Large Rectangular) 240mm length & 0.5mm thickness
- Stainless steel trowel (Medium Pointed) 210mm length & 0.3mm thickness
- Stainless steel trowel (Small Pointed) 120mm length & 0.3mm thickness
- Acrylic trowel (Medium Pointed) 210mm length & 1.5mm thickness
The large rectangular trowel is mostly used for the first general application of the material. Pointed trowels work well for corners and tight areas, as well as being used to create patterns and textures with its pointed end (such as feathering for example). The acrylic trowel is used to compress and smooth the final finish after it has gone matte. These fine Japanese trowels can be purchased individually or as a set.
